Great Time Management is a lifestyle choice, it requires discipline and determination and like most things in life it will never truly be mastered, but it is a way of living that we strive for.

There is no perfect that you are striving for there is only how you feel. What works for one person doesn’t work for everyone so apply what works, discard what doesn’t and enjoy the journey…because the journey is your life!

As a business owner your most valuable commodity is your time and that is why you should be outsourcing your weaknesses.  One of my favourite quotes;

“No man is rich enough to buy back his past” Oscar Wilde

You’re In Charge Of It All

When you first become a business owner you make an interesting transition from the corporate world, to the world of entrepreneurship. Suddenly you are free to run the business of your dreams, everything is exciting and new, and then it hits you…‘You’re in charge of everything’.

You are the IT helpdesk, the Sales & Marketing department, the person who orders the stationary, and the Finance department who has to keep a track of it all.

Finally you are free to do things your way, but with that comes a load of tasks that you might not have anticipated, be qualified to execute, and or be prepared to resolve!

Managing Multiple Roles

The trick to overcoming this hurdle is to get organised right from the start. Work out what your key strengths are in your business and then outsource all of the rest.

When you first start your business give all of the activities a go so that you know what it is that you are outsourcing, just don’t fall into the trap of trying to do it all for too long and end up stressed out and overwhelmed.

“There is nothing less productive than to make more efficient what should not be done at all.” – Peter Drucker

What Can Be Outsourced

The list below covers some of the major areas that you can outsource (if they are not your key skillset they will take up a lot of your time).

At this point I want to point out that outsourcing is not about delegating and walking away. By distributing tasks to experts you gain back the time that it would have taken for you to execute it yourself, but you are still responsible for project managing and monitoring their activities.

  • Book Keeping & Accounting
  • IT Support
  • Website Development
  • Social Media Management
  • SEO & Lead Generation
  • Marketing & Branding
  • Virtual Assistant
  • Copy writing

Resource management is a key skill of a business owner yet it is under estimated and under exposed.  Let me know in the comments below how you did at outsourcing your weaknesses.
